Celebrating The Spirit Of Indian Fashion This Independence Day

Five designers showcase hues of patriotism to celebrate the spirit of Indian fashion this Independence Day

India has always been an epitome for immaculate style and craftsmanship – be it the sartorial choices of maharajas and maharanis or their whim for the finest fabrics and jewellery! In today’s day and age, we can identify inspirations from India’s rich cultural heritage and eclectic resonances as designers showcase ensembles reflecting their unique perceptions on Indian fashion in shades of saffrons, emeralds, indigos and ivories and we unite to celebrate our 74th Independence Day.

GULABO JAIPUR

One of the few occasions where we truly celebrate the spirit of patriotism is Independence Day! But independence isn’t just about spirit, it’s also about expression and what better way to express than clothes!

A myriad of diverse cultures, summarized visually in traditional attires, celebrating the glory of independence through contemporary silhouettes; such is the philosophy of Gulabo Jaipur. What better way to honour the portrayal of patriotism than by flaunting shades of the tri-colour in weaves of handcrafted ethnicity.

KUNAL ANIL TANNA

Transitioning from modern methods to traditional tailoring, the Nehru jacket serves as an example of the versatility of menswear fashion. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Indian fashion, especially for men, has grown leaps and bounds in the last decade.

Kickstarting the festive season, Kunal Anil Tanna deconstructs the rules for dapper dressing this Independence Day. For long men have enjoyed a one-dimensional wardrobe with closet staples, but disruption is underway as bomber jackets team up with short kurtas, mandarin collars adapt disco collars and solid colours get dramatic with tactile textures to amp up the fusion-formal look.

VEDIKA M

Drape your freedom this Independence Day with yards of handpainted plush fabric in quirky festive wear as Vedika M paves the way for resort and festive wear in patriotic hues.

An ode to effortless and graceful style, these classic Indian silhouettes, illustrated in handpainted floral and leaf motifs, in subtle pastels showcase a sense of timelessness. The essence of our cultural roots is reiterated in plush fabrics to commemorate the heritage of our country.

EURUMME

Whether you’re in the mood to celebrate big or simply go basic during the lockdown, you do need the right accessories to complete your look. Do not worry, we’ve got you covered!

Eurumme’s contemporary jewellery, handcrafted using upcycled materials like leaves, cardboard is inspired by nature. Designer Eishita Puri finds beauty in imperfections and revives traditions with an eclectic twist with sustainable and chic adornments.

LOVETOBAG

Independence is the state of liberation; it is about being yourself and expressing your individualistic spirit not only on this day, but throughout the year. For designer Ayushi Kanoi, this means to celebrate the local artisans and craftsmen who are responsible for reviving our culture and help in keeping up the legacy of our heritage.

At Lovetobag, Ayushi strives to create luxe accessories dipped in hues of gold, silver, ivory, embellished with striking gemstones which serve as modern heirlooms for the contemporary bride. These regal keepsakes are apt to adorn your arm while styled with traditional attires this Independence Day!
